Alumni Association President Mary Severino Meyer, RN, MS (Rush 1994 and 2008), of Western Springs, Ill., died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, after a courageous battle against cancer. She was 45 years old. A clinical coordinator for medicine at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, Meyer was a dedicated clinical nurse specialist who was strongly devoted to patient education and consultation. A longtime volunteer at Rush University Medical Center, Meyer was very involved with the Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Nurses Alumni Association and as a member of Rush’s Board of Trustees, the Campaign Committee for Rush University Medical Center and Rush’s Quality of Care Committee. |

Prior to her work at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, Meyer worked at Northwestern Memorial Hospital from 1986 to 2006. She had also volunteered with the Western Springs Historical Society and Chicago Careers for Youths.
“Mary was such an extraordinary nurse. She was dedicated to leadership, as seen in her commitment to the alumni association, and to the continued education of nurses as patient advocates,” said MaryPat Mauro, senior director of development and alumni relations at Rush. “Mary had a particular talent for reaching out to nurses from all generations. She was able to inspire more established nurses with an enthusiasm for the future of nursing and to instill in Rush’s student nurses a profound respect for the privilege of nursing.”
