RNFA Program for the Advanced Practice Nurse: First Surgical Assistant Online Program

Rush University College of Nursing is offering a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) two-course series for the advanced practice nurse (APRN), with the first class scheduled for fall 2012. This program expands the APN’s role to include the skill set of a first surgical assistant in the operating room. Providing this enhanced continuity of care adds value and marketability for current or future APRN practice. Upon completion of the series, advanced practice nurses will have the required educational preparation and documentation to sit for the RNFA certification exam offered by the Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI). Application deadline April 1, 2012. For more information, contact Alison_C_Ridge@rush.edu

This interactive workshop will cover t-tests, regression analysis, analysis of variance, and the interpretation of each.

Longitudinal Data Analysis using SPSS

April 6, 2012
9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The workshop will revolve around sessions on: repeated measures analysis of variance, survival analysis, and mixed regression modeling.  Session will be conducted using SPSS. Participants should have some familiarity with the analysis of variance.

Analyzing Data With Excel

May 11, 2012
9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

This interactive workshop will provide attendees with the knowledge required to store data in excel for data analysis and to use the statistical and graphical capabilities of Excel for clinical problem solving and outcome analysis in program assessment and evidence based practice.  Basic Excel skills suggested for attendance.

Random Regression and Data Imputation Using R

June 22, 2012
9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

This interactive workshop will provide researchers with the tools required to conduct, interpret and report advanced statistical analyses by use of Freeware. Attendees will generate datasets. Content includes description and demonstration of Random Regression Models and demonstration and interactive use of Freeware. Attendees will generate models using Freeware.

Mental Health First Aid

March 15 - 16, 2012; 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
June 7 - 8, 2012; 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a public education and prevention tool that improves knowledge of mental health problems. Similar to traditional First Aid and CPR, MHFA is help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a crisis.

Trainees go through a 12 hour training program that builds mental health literacy by learning risk factors and warning signs of mental illness, learning available mental health treatments and resources, and gaining an understanding of the impact mental illnesses have on a person, their family, and communities. The program teaches an action plan to: 1) assess a situation, 2) select and implement appropriate interventions, and 3) secure appropriate care for an individual experiencing a mental health problem.

Participants will develop a teaching philosophy and explore aspects of clinical teaching including making assignments, clinical conferences, and completing student evaluations.  Asynchronous discussion is used to explore the topics, exchange ideas, and critically think about the course content. Twenty CNEs are earned upon successful completion of the course.

Data Management and Analysis With Excel
The data management and analysis course will be offered on the following dates and participants will have access to the course for three weeks:
